This new site has been a collaboration between Information Services, Marketing and Nursing to accomplish. Ina Glass and I would love to hear your comments and suggestions for this site. Magnet in a Minute

Dear Miss Magnet,
When will the results from the RN Survey be back for everyone to see?
                                                                                                Participated
Dear Participated,
NDNQI turns it off on May 27 at midnight. Last year it took 4 weeks to get the results back. I expect it will take that long again this year. Including both hospitals of EMH, there are 161 hospitals for a total of over 86,000 RN eligible for the survey. Once the Magnet Coordinator (Regina Rice) receives the results, she will make the results available to the Nurse Retention Council (NRC) and post on the website and intranet for all to see. The NRC will then have a few people meeting to analyze the results and compare this year to last years results.

Dear Miss Magnet,
Who really needs to be involved in this Magnet stuff?
                                                                                Not a Nurse
Dear Not a Nurse,
The Magnet Document, which currently is being planned for submission in early 2014, will be focused on the quality of nursing care the patients of EMH receive. However, ALL associates of EMH will have involvement in the Magnet Culture. Magnet is not just a test a facility takes, it is a way of thinking, caring and working. There are 88 standards that Magnet requires from each applicant. There must be adequate documentation for each of the standards. Again, each standard is nursing focused, but at the same time, all the other departments of EMH will have some involvement. Shared decision-making is giving a voice to the associates of our organization and is a part of the vision of our CEO, Vicki Darnell. It is not only a nursing initiative.  Other departments are already interested in starting unit based councils (UBC) for this purpose.  The UBC’s meet monthly and choose something in the department that associates believe need to be improved. Many times the associates within a department have great ideas that could improve the services provided by EMH. This is a way for associates to have more empowerment in “how” to do their job.

If you have a question you would like to see addressed in this column, please send it to rrice@emrmc.org .
